In April 1774, William Hooper, a delegate to the First Continental Congress, wrote to a fellow North Carolinian that the American colonists were “striding fast to independence.” How did this journey unfold in a town like New Bern? What were the consequences of the conflict? Join Tryon Palace Research Historian Lindy Cummings as we explore the events of the American Revolution in New Bern. This discussion will put special focus on the early stages of the conflict as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the New Bern Resolves and continue in our series leading up to America250.
Join the New Bern Historical Society and Tryon Palace for this special program on Thursday, August 22nd at 7pm at the North Carolina History Center’s Cullman Performance Hall at 529 S. Front St. No cost; reservations are recommended. Register here or call 252-638-8558 to reserve your spot. Doors open at 6:30pm.
