About Us
The New Bern Historical Society
In 1923, Judge Romulus A. Nunn and other Craven County citizens founded the New Bern Historical Society “to preserve for future generations the wealth of historical material found in New Bern.” The vision of these New Bernians continues today and is reflected in an active calendar of educational events/programs and social gatherings. Membership has grown to approximately 800 with hundreds of volunteers contributing to our projects, programs and events each year.
The organization owns and operates the historic 18th c. Attmore-Oliver House, the New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park and the Roberts House, home to our administratiive offices.
The Historical Society is a non-profit membership organization with an IRS 501 (C) 3 tax-exempt classification.
The mission of the New Bern Historical Society is to celebrate and promote New Bern and its heritage through events and education
