With thousands of U.S. Marines calling ENC home\, we get to tie their mission of strategic maneuverability back to the Civil War days right here on the Neuse River in 1862. With the development of the surf boats and the availability of appropriate landing zones\, Commander Rowan executed one of the first joint operations that featured ship to shore movement covered by reinforcing fire from the ships. Hear more about this innovative approach and how these decisions set the stage for continuous Union occupation of New Bern throughout the remainder of the Civil War. \nPrepaid reservations required.
