Day Trippers

Day Trippers visit Airlie Gardens in Wilmington!
April 21, 2010

Once the plantation home of a wealthy rice planter, these 67-acre Gilded Age gardens are surrounded by huge lawns, serene lakes, and wooded gardens that hold just about every kind of azalea in existence. The blooms are at their height in early spring, but even when they are faded, this isĀ  lovely spot. Unveiled in 2007, an open-air greenhouse is home to some 20 species of butterflies, and visitors can watch them as they take flight. Guides are on hand to give you tips on recreating a small-scale butterfly garden in your own backyard. $35 DAY TRIP fee will include admission ticket to the garden and lunch at a nearby restaurant.

We will meet in the parking lot of the Roberts House at 8:30 AM. Individual carpools will decide on their return time as Wilmington has antique shops and other places of interest.

To keep the price of our day trips as reasonable as possible, we carpool. Drivers are offered a gas stipend of $5 per passenger, which is given at registration on the day of the trip.
